Some dogs spend their lives trying to fit the mold.
Petunia never had a chance.
Born into a backyard breeding situation, Petunia entered the world with a long list of challenges. Her unusual appearance, hairlessness, and medical issues were the result of irresponsible breeding practices that left her fighting an uphill battle from the very beginning. After being rescued and brought to Oregon, she received the medical care she desperately needed, including surgery to help her breathe more comfortably.
But Petunia's story was never defined by what was wrong with her.

The tiny hairless bulldog mix quickly became known for her larger-than-life personality, affectionate nature, and ability to make everyone she met smile. While some saw an unusual-looking dog, those who knew Petunia saw exactly what we see in so many of The Wonky Dogs: resilience, joy, and a spirit that refuses to be overlooked.
This year, the world got to see it too.
Petunia was crowned the 2025 World's Ugliest Dog, earning the title at the annual competition held at the Sonoma County Fair in California. The event celebrates dogs with unique appearances while promoting rescue, adoption, and the idea that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms.
The irony isn't lost on us.
The very features that once made Petunia unwanted are now the same features that made her unforgettable.
Her hairlessness. Her wonky appearance. Her one-of-a-kind look.
The things that could have been reasons to give up on her became the reasons people fell in love with her.
For those of us who share our lives with special-needs, differently-abled, and unconventional dogs, that's what makes this moment so meaningful. Petunia's win isn't really about being the "ugliest." It's about changing the way people see dogs who don't fit traditional standards of beauty.
Because anyone who has met Petunia knows the truth:
She's not ugly at all.
She's funny. She's lovable. She's resilient. She's perfectly imperfect.
And now, she's officially the World's Ugliest Dog.
We couldn't be prouder.
Congratulations, Petunia. The crown looks good on you.
