Some dogs inspire you the moment you meet them. Newt is one of those dogs.
A Catahoula and Vizsla mix born in February 2021, Newt's story began with unimaginable hardship. At just six weeks old, he suffered a horrific act of abuse that left him without his nose and upper snout. Local authorities in Waco, Texas confiscated Newt, his siblings, and their mother, and he was placed in the care of Ghetto Gal Rescue.
Recognizing the severity of his injuries, the rescue partnered with New York Bully Crew to fly Newt to New York, where he could receive specialized medical evaluation if needed. Despite the trauma he endured, Newt healed from his injuries and continued to thrive.

At five months old, Newt found his forever home when he was adopted and flown to Oregon in July 2021. Today, his family remains grateful for the incredible work of both Ghetto Gal Rescue and New York Bully Crew, who helped give Newt a second chance at life.
While Newt may look different from other dogs, he doesn't see himself as disabled. In fact, he approaches life with an enthusiasm and determination that inspires everyone around him.
Because he is missing his upper jaw, Newt requires a little extra care. He lives with acid reflux disease and must be hand-fed specially prepared meals shaped into meatballs that he can easily eat. But don't tell Newt any of that slows him down.
One of his favorite things to do is carry objects in his mouth. Whether it's a toy, a stick, or something he probably shouldn't have picked up, Newt is determined to figure it out. Sometimes it takes him a little longer to find the right angle or technique, but he almost always succeeds.

His perseverance has become one of his most endearing qualities.
When he's not charming everyone he meets, Newt can usually be found hanging out with his best friends in the pack: Poppy, Picasso, and Winnie.
Over the years, Newt's remarkable story has touched the hearts of people around the world. He's partnered with brands including Embark Veterinary and Cuddle Clones, helping raise awareness about the resilience and joy that special-needs dogs bring to the world.
More than anything, Newt is proof that a difficult beginning doesn't have to define the rest of your story. His life is a testament to resilience, determination, and the incredible things that can happen when a dog is given a second chance.
And if you ask Newt, he's just getting started.
