Picasso: The Dog Who Proved Different Is Beautiful

At first glance, Picasso is impossible to forget.

With his unmistakable crooked smile and sideways snout, he turns heads everywhere he goes. But what makes Picasso truly special isn't his appearance—it's the joyful, resilient spirit behind it.

Born in April 2016, Picasso is a unique mix of Pit Bull, Pomeranian, and Poodle. He was born with a condition called wry mouth, which caused his upper jaw and snout to twist while he was developing in the womb. The result is a one-of-a-kind face that has captured hearts around the world.

But Picasso's story didn't begin with fame.

As a puppy, he and his littermates were advertised for sale online by their breeder. Eventually, Picasso and his brother Pablo ended up homeless. Just before Christmas in 2016, the two brothers were picked up as strays and brought to a California shelter. When the shelter contacted the breeder, she declined to reclaim them.

Thankfully, their story was far from over.

The brothers were rescued by Luvable Dog Rescue in Oregon, where their incredible bond quickly became apparent. Picasso and Pablo were inseparable—often described as "two dogs, one head." Wherever one brother went, the other was close behind.

Then tragedy struck.

When the brothers were just 18 months old, Pablo suddenly passed away from what veterinarians determined was a massive stroke. The loss was devastating. Pablo had been Picasso's constant companion, best friend, and source of comfort since birth.

Despite such heartbreak, Picasso continued moving forward with the same joyful spirit that has defined his life.

Today, Picasso doesn't let his unique appearance slow him down. He runs, plays, hikes, and explores just like any other dog. He simply does things a little differently. Because of the way his jaw is positioned, he eats sideways, drinks sideways, and occasionally leaves people wondering how exactly he manages it all.

The answer is simple: Picasso has never seen himself as limited.

His unusual smile became an international sensation after his rescue story went viral, inspiring millions of people to see beauty through a different lens. What started as a story about a dog with a crooked face quickly became a story about acceptance, resilience, and celebrating what makes us unique.

These days, Picasso spends his time enjoying life with his friends, especially his best buddy Newt. He's also become a beloved ambassador for rescue dogs everywhere, showing that perfection has nothing to do with appearance.

Over the years, Picasso has partnered with brands including Embark Veterinary and Cuddle Clones, which even created a stuffed replica and custom bobblehead in his likeness. Yet his greatest accomplishment remains much simpler: changing the way people see dogs who look different.

Picasso's story reminds us that some of life's greatest treasures come wrapped in unexpected packages. His crooked smile has become a symbol of hope, proving that being different isn't something to overcome—it's something to celebrate.

And if you ask anyone who knows him, they'll tell you the same thing:

Picasso may have the most unique face in the world, but it's his heart that people remember most.
